Dorothy Day's 1963 'Loaves and Fishes' — history of the Catholic Worker movement on its 30th anniversary
Published by Harper & Row in 1963 on the 30th anniversary of the Catholic Worker movement, 'Loaves and Fishes' is Dorothy Day's history of the movement she co-founded with Peter Maurin in 1933. The book chronicles the founding, the early newspaper (The Catholic Worker, 1933-), the houses of hospitality, the farms, the encounters with the poor, and the major figures (Maurin, Day, Stanley Vishnewski, Ammon Hennacy, others). Less personal than 'The Long Loneliness' (1952), 'Loaves and Fishes' is the principal external history of the movement.
