West's 2014 'Black Prophetic Fire' — dialogues with Christa Buschendorf on six Black prophetic figures
Published by Beacon Press in 2014 and co-authored with Goethe-Universität Frankfurt scholar Christa Buschendorf, 'Black Prophetic Fire' is a series of dialogues between West and Buschendorf on six Black prophetic figures — Frederick Douglass, W. E. B. Du Bois, Martin Luther King Jr, Ella Baker, Malcolm X, and Ida B. Wells. The book treats each figure as exemplifying a distinct mode of the Black prophetic tradition and engages contemporary questions of race, class, and politics in the Obama era.
