Tradition: Neapolitan Italian Enlightenment
Vico's 1725 foundational philosophy of history — verum-factum, the cycle of corsi e ricorsi
The New Science (Scienza Nuova) is Giambattista Vico's 1725 foundational philosophy of history — central theses: "verum-factum" (the true is what is made, so we can know history because we made it); the cycle of historical ages (gods, heroes, men) through which all nations pass (corsi e ricorsi); the imaginative-poetic origins of human institutions. The work was foundational for the philosophy of history (Hegel, Marx, Croce, Joyce, Berlin) and human sciences.
