Daly's 1973 founding work of radical feminist theology — beyond God the Father
Beyond God the Father: Toward a Philosophy of Women's Liberation is Mary Daly's 1973 founding work of radical feminist theology. Daly argues that patriarchal religion — especially the Christian conception of God as Father — has structurally oppressed women, and that an authentic women's spirituality requires breaking through patriarchal symbolism to a "verb" of becoming. The work marks Daly's transition from her earlier reformist work (The Church and the Second Sex, 1968) to a radical post-Christian position. Foundational for radical feminist theology and the modern theology of women's liberation (Ruether, Schüssler Fiorenza).
