Boff's 1981 foundational liberation-theological ecclesiology — Church of the poor
Church: Charism and Power (Igreja: carisma e poder) is Leonardo Boff's 1981 foundational liberation-theological ecclesiology — central thesis: the Church must be re-conceived as the "Church of the poor" emerging from the base ecclesial communities (CEBs); the work critiqued the institutional Church's collusion with structures of domination and called for a more democratic, charismatic, Spirit-led Church. The work led to Boff's 1985 silencing by the Vatican (under Joseph Ratzinger's CDF). Boff eventually left the Franciscan order in 1992.
