Madhva's 13th-c. interpretive work on the Mahābhārata — establishing the proper Dvaita reading of the epic
Mahābhārata-Tātparya-Nirṇaya ("The Decisive Determination of the Meaning of the Mahābhārata") is Madhva's philosophical-interpretive treatise on the Sanskrit epic. The work argues that the Mahābhārata — when read with proper philosophical-religious attention — teaches the Dvaita-Vaiṣṇava position: Viṣṇu/Kṛṣṇa as supreme Brahman, the eternal real difference between Brahman and souls, the dependence of the world on Brahman, and the central importance of devotional practice.

School Embodiments
Major Vedānta-interpretive treatise on the Mahābhārata.
"The proper reading of the Mahābhārata reveals it as the supreme teacher of Vedānta truth — properly understood, it teaches the Dvaita position." (Mahābhārata-Tātparya-Nirṇaya)
Continued strong metaphysical-realist position — the epic's teaching as confirming pluralist-realist Vedānta.
"The epic narrative depicts real beings in real relations of dependence — not the metaphysical illusion the Advaitins suppose." (Mahābhārata-Tātparya-Nirṇaya)
Major Vaiṣṇava-interpretive work — Kṛṣṇa as the supreme, Pāṇḍava devotion as paradigm bhakti.
"Arjuna's devotion to Kṛṣṇa is the paradigm of the proper jīva-Brahman relation; the Pāṇḍavas' victory is Kṛṣṇa's." (Mahābhārata-Tātparya-Nirṇaya)
Continued pluralist-realist framework — pañca-bheda confirmed in the epic's narrative.
"The epic's many real beings in real relations of difference and dependence enact the Dvaita pañca-bheda." (Mahābhārata-Tātparya-Nirṇaya)
Sustained narrative-interpretive methodology — the epic as religious-philosophical text rather than mere story.
"The narrative form of the Mahābhārata is not merely entertaining but pedagogical — it teaches by depicting." (Mahābhārata-Tātparya-Nirṇaya)
Continued mystical-devotional framework — bhakti to Viṣṇu/Kṛṣṇa as the proper soteric path.
"What the epic narrates and what the philosopher demonstrates converge: bhakti to the supreme is the proper religious life." (Mahābhārata-Tātparya-Nirṇaya)
Major Sanskrit-tradition work of hermeneutics — the proper interpretive method for sacred-narrative text.
"The Mahābhārata must be read with attention to its proper religious-philosophical teaching, not as mere narrative or as imaginative literature." (Mahābhārata-Tātparya-Nirṇaya)
Vedanta tradition.
