On Dialogue
David Bohm's late 1980s-90s lectures and essays on dialogue as a mode of collective thought
Tradition: Bohmian process-physics / philosophy of dialogue / contemplative inquiry
Bohm's late lectures on dialogue as a mode of collective thought and inquiry
Published by Routledge in 1996 (after Bohm's October 1992 death), 'On Dialogue' collects his late lectures and essays on dialogue — a structured form of group conversation in which participants suspend their assumptions and inquire together into the structure of thought itself. Drawing on his work with Krishnamurti and his Bohmian-physics framework, Bohm proposes 'dialogue' as a practice for groups to encounter the collective dimension of thought, surface implicit assumptions, and create new shared meaning. The book is a major source for the late Bohm's philosophical concerns.
