Overview
The observer as an energetically active perceiver distributed in an informational spatial field — this quadruplet describes the act of perception abstracted from matter and time. The observer expends energy to gather information from spatial locations: light carries visual information, sound carries auditory information, and every perceptual channel is an energetic-informational transaction across space. Without matter, the observer is a pure perceiving field; without time, perception is instantaneous.
Central Tension
The tension is between the spatial distribution of information and the energetic cost of accessing it. Information may be available throughout space, but accessing it always requires energy — to send a signal, to detect a photon, to process a pattern. The observer's energetic budget limits their informational reach across space. Without matter, the question becomes whether perception can occur in a purely energetic-informational medium, and without time, whether it can occur at all.
