The Presbyterian Church in America (1973)

Birmingham, Alabama, 4 December 1973

The PCA was formed by conservative Southern Presbyterians who left the PCUS (the southern mainline body) over doctrinal liberalism and the 1969 plan of reunion with the UPCUSA. The PCA subscribes to the Westminster Standards in the American 1788 text and is now the largest confessionally Westminster Presbyterian body in the United States (~380,000 members). Its confessional practice — 'good faith subscription' with declared exceptions — is slightly broader than the OPC's strict subscription but still anchored in Westminster.
